Better clocks. The problem is that you have to poke Thorium 222 with a very specific type of laser. But now that it happened, What is the result?
Some mouse with a PhD gets NOBEL cheese for redefining the second?
Better clocks mean we can measure uncertainty better, which means your insurance company can jack up your insurance rates and your TV becomes even more complex to use. And that laser that is supposed to stop incoming hypersonic warheads will still miss about half of the time because Mister Heisenberg still has not gone away.
PROGRESS!
If you have noticed my sarcasm, it is because practical me, would like an application that makes life easier, instead of adding another layer to the obscured day to day operators. Ever wonder why we still will use Newton (orbits and trajectories) and or surveying (maps) instead of Einstein and timespace translation in ballistics and driving? Cause when the GPS goes down, (Better clocks, there, gave us an application means to steer explosives from launch to impact or to drive from Princeton (hellhole) to San Diego (another hellhole).), without referring to those outdated firing tables and maps.
GPS hides the skills that allow us to navigate through life directly. People are lazy. Navigation is a perishable skill. Lose it and you become LOST. Danial Boone could navigate from Princeton to San Diego, by Sun, and stars. Most of us cannnot.
In Ukraine, the Russians taped GPS guidance assists to the cockpits of their warplanes to enable their incompetent pilots to fly to downtown Odessa to bomb hospitals and apartment buildings. WE took GPS away fromn them. Now they probably use Chinese made BEIDOU. We took that away, too.
Hence, the UKR, as bad as the Russian terror bombardments have been, have it easier than the Iraqis did. Let us hope that those Russian pigs have not reverted like we have done, and resumed training people how to read MAPS and use stellar navigation.
