Hmm. Dyson Spheres? Freeman Dyson was insane. There are rotational angular momentum reasons why Dyson spheres are "difficult".
We would have to have something like an engineered equivalent to the strong nuclear force, to create "crystals lattices" as our base building material, the way we use steels today. That would be an order of 10^30 magnitudes better than our strongest carbon filaments.
In other words, we would have to engineer materials on the order of strength equivalent to the internal pressure of a proton or about 10^35+ pascals.
It is my guess that we will see ring-worlds before we see Dyson spheres. So Larry Niven, who was also crazy, will be the guy we should credit with Type II Civilization artifacts.
